I need help with choosing a linux os?

You may want, instead, to use an OSS Unix OS... freeBSD or openBSD.  Check them out.

I suggest Cent OS or Debian if your planning to set it up as a server, although Debian is a bit hard to install because of the load of packages it wnats you to pick.
