I need help with dining choices in Montreal please!?

Question

I'll be in Montreal for 5 days in May and need some local input. What's your favorite French restaurant in the city (not too expensive)? I'm considering going to Le Convivial, L'Express, Le Grand Comptoir, Copains Gourmands and others. Any good or bad things to say about any of them? What about the Spanish and Portuguese restaurants? Is Casa Tapas better than Tapeo Bar a Tapas? Marilou or Adega or another choice? I would consider any of your favorites. Please tell me why you like them too. Thanks!

If you already know the area where your hotel is located (downtown?), you can look by neighborhoods too.
