I need help with guitar tabs!?

I'm just learning how to play the guitar, and I've been looking on the internet for guitar tabs and I keep seeing x's in the tabs like this:

I don't understand what the x's mean, so i don't know how to play it! Can anyone please help me? =\

The X means mute the string

an x means mute. to do this try resting your finger on the string without applying pressure. this stops the string from making its designed note by preventing the vibrations of the string to travel across the entire string and into the pickup or sound hole
