  1. teddy bear hamsters are very sweet and very nice if u raise 'em right

  2. males do have a better temper and i do love the one i had so id go for it... might i suggest petsmart mine lived forever when i got him from there :D

  3. Syrians are just bigger hamsters basically. I have a male Syrian and I think that he is calmer than females - although he is very active!!! You will love Syrians they are awesome!!

  4. do NOT buy siberian!

I had one when I was younger and he was really mean...cute but mean! haha :)

  5. buy a rat. they are better pets in my opinion.

  6. I have two syrian hamsters there panda hamsters. ones really nice and ones kinda not nice but there both girls. If you get more then one you must keep them in seperate cages. syrian hamsters also get a little bigger so dont get those cages with a bunch of tubes because im sure dwarf hamsters can easily fit through those but syrian's cant.

    thats all i have

  7. No! it is not true that the males have a better temperament than the female. Both, if from the same breeder will be equally the same. But the female is more protective of her territory than the male is, this for obvious reasons, that the female must establish a secure and safe location for any futures litters that she may have, that is just her natural instinct.

All hamsters are territorial; this includes the Dwarf hamsters, the only difference is the Dwarfs ‘may’ tolerate each other, whereas the Syrian hamster won’t, they are solitary creatures, meaning they wish to live alone.

Teddy bear, or the long haired Syrian hamster are my favourites, and I think you have made a good choice with your new pet. But make sure that you pick a good nice friendly one as a pet, one that you can handle without the fear of being bitten. Many people can make mistakes when they buy a hamster, only to find out once they get it home they are unable to handle it because it has a temperament problem, an aggressive hamster has got a temperament issue, and an aggressive hamster cannot be tamed. Great care should be exercised with pet shop bought hamsters. The backgrounds and the breeders of these animals are unknown; some breeders that breed for the pet trade are not too concerned with temperament issues.

Once you have finally selected the shop and the hamster you want, you ‘must’ ask the assistant, may you handle that animal, if he say no: then walk away, often a refusal is an indication of a temperament problem, and if the assistant won't handle the animal, this should confirm what I have just told you. If the answer is yes, and you are able to handle it, that animal should make no attempt at all to bite when you try to pick them up. Although they will show signs of being nervous, and maybe a little bit jumpy, this is a natural reaction, once he has been tamed he will be fine. Don’t buy any animal that nip’s; or bites thinking you may be able to tame it later: You won’t, a hamster that bites is from a very poor breeder.

    Syrian Hamster Breeder.

  8. If you are used to having dwarf hamsters, then you will definitely love syrian hamsters. They are more friendly than the dwarfs and easier to tame. Also once tamed, they stay tame for life unlike the dwarf hamsters who have to be handled frequently otherwise they become untamed.

The only drawback with Syrian hamsters is they are very territorial and you cannot put two syrians in the same cage - they will fight viciously and kill each other. Dwarfs on the other hand can stay in groups with no problems at all.

As long as you don't plan to put two syrian hamsters in the same cage, you can go ahead and buy the syrian hamster, I am sure you will have a great time with him and you will find him easier in his demeanour compared to the dwarfs you have had previously.
