  1. Find a barn near your home and take lessons there...  learn to ride and learn to care for the horse.  If they give you the option, lease a horse or volunteer and show your dad that you are responsible enough to care for the horse without help.  And in your free time at home, go to a website like equine.com or dreamhorse or something and look for horses for sale in your area.  find one who has experience in barrels and poles and who is within your price range.  research how much the horse is going to cost per year...  find out prices for farriers and vets, find a place where your horse will live (do you have a barn or will you need to board?  how much will boarding cost and what services will it include?)  find out how much feeding the horse will cost and study which hay and which grain your horse will eat and the benefits and drawbacks of each type of feed (price, health, energy).  And as you learn stuff, make sure you tell your dad of all the little facts you're learning along the way...  it will show him you're serious about it...  and if you constantly tell him things every day, he'll see you're continuously interested in owning the horse and it's not just your latest interest.

And you can tell him that having the horse 2 years before college is kinda silly...  a lot of people go away to college and don't have time for their horse anymore, so either they sell it or it just stands in the stall until the kid comes home for the summer...  so it's really better if you have the horse sooner because you will get more use out of it.

  2. what I did was do alot of research on horses, it showed that I was really serious about it, and wanted to know how to take care of it correctly.

  3. Beg and plead and don't give up! good luck
