  1. go out on a walk round town and then to somewere quite natural and collect stuff and have a look in some of the shops and see how to 2 can relate and you should get a few ideas from that?   thats what idve done

  2. Texture.

This can mean anything and everything. Try multi layers of paints. Acrylics and PVA glue would be the best way to start, as is quick drying.

Start with something simple, abstractive on a decent sheet of paper.

Don't just do one, do as many as you can. It is remarkably quick and enjoyable. Then you can build up many differing styles of textures with either the paint alone, or mix with different materials. This means again, anything. . sand, shells, straw, bits of cloth. . anything.

Think about the beauty and Aesthetics of the forms and colors of said Works, and you should be well away.

Get stuck in, nothing is easy to begin with.

Let us all know how you fare with this task.

  3. Devongod has a great idea there about the seas.

Make a textile painting on wood or hard cardboard.  You could outline in pencil a scene of the sea with the shoreline and then use shiny blues of various hues for the sea. Put some gossimer see-through fabrics in with the blue for effect and more detail. Bend the fabric to make waves and glue it down on the edges. Larger waves at the shore line crashing. For the sand use nubby type of fabric in brown or beige like the sand so you could feel the texture of it if you ran your hands over it.  Use multi-coloured smooth in browns and beiges to form rocks on the shoreline. Fold them so some are rounded and oblong and glue them along the shore.  Use some leather to create a waterlogged branch on the shore and some chenille to make the wings of a stylized bird in flight.  Just some wings and a basic body. You don't have to be a good artist to do this.  This folding of the fabric and placement will create the scene.   Make it more horizontal than vertical for interest and incorporate as many different types of textures as you can find .  I think that is the object of the project.  Get as many swatches as you can at the local textile store.  Have fun with it.

  4. Why don't you look at different surfaces and then get material to represent them, cover a small piece of a similar surface with that material and then sew them together like a patch work quilt?

    For example....

Table - get some wood, cover it with brown material maybe decorated to look like wood.

Marbe - get a rock, cover it with material that looks like marble.

Or....you could make a textile house - like surfaces made out of material - sew a table, chairs etc.

  5. Surfaces in nature are abundant, only it is raining so take an umbrella with you and wellies.  The rain and damp, will probably be a bonus to originality of texture though.

  6. the surface of the sea, the ripples, the waves... loads of possibilities there

  7. what a great thing for coursework!! be totally out of this world... no idea is too crazy for fashion. if anything, the more different, the better! write a list of as many different types of surfaces you can think of, and really go for it... bricks, carpet, stone, the lot! then write a list of all the items you are able... and willing to make. mix and match the surfaces with the item, and one is bound to stand out.then somehow whther its the material you use, of the pattern you choose, just add in this 'surface' remember it doesnt have to completly cover the item. but still needs to show it off.... ill be interested to know what you make!

    Good luck!

  8. If it were me, I would think about the surface of the Earth, and how it is being polluted. You could make shoes or a table cloth of something based upon the idea of the surface of the Earth being polluted and make it out of rubbish, and recycled clothes.

Some people say "on the surface he is....., but really he is......" and you could make something about this, people being superficial, or about how people portray themselves a certain way.

You could make a quilt- to symbolise the layers people wrap themselves in

a purse, bag, Poncho, scarf, hat or maybe a childrens cuddly toy

  9. look at the work or Roberto Capucci

    e.g. http://farm1.static.flickr.com/172/47838...

He certainly does a lot with fabric and surface. google him for more info and more images.

What item of clothing you make is really up to you. Personally I have a thing for hats, so I would make a hat. If you want it easy, make a vest.

If you are stuck go to the library and look at artistic fashion books...
