I have a old computer that is running a little slow so I looked in to how to make it run faster, and I found a couple articles that said if you want to get some more use out of an old computer you can install a small linux distribution, like d**n Small Linux. But I don't have a pen drive. Is there a way I can install it without one?

  1. the DSL website has a set of instructions to install it to the hard drive its kinda hard to stumble onto but it works pretty well. another option might be slitaz and xubuntu I kinda get a kick out of slitaz its evan smaller then DSL and offers some features I like better

  2. you can put it on a cd

or get a usb pen drive they are so cheap anyway

  3. You can try TinyMe.

    Have you been to http://www.distrowatch.com?

Also, you're in for some effort.  Although GNU/Linux distributions have come a long way, they are still not up to snuff for the average computer user.  One must learn a lot, be willing to tinker, and configure a lot of things (even though I personally feel that it is SO WELL WORTH the effort).

But I believe that most Microsoft Windows users are not yet ready for GNU/Linux distributions.

TinyMe installed on my ancient Compaq 1655 laptop with 64MB of RAM and a piddly little 4 GB hard drive.  I like it well enough, although I don't know how to get the synaptics mouse touchpad (I've read that it can be done).
