Okay, so i'm a cheerleader at my high school, and all week we have these things called kiddy camps. It's a fundraiser for us, and part of it is making little things for the paretns to buy for their little girls.

Girls before have made:

flip flops

pillow cases

hair ribbons

picture frames

spirit sticks

I need help coming up with some ideas of things to make for these little girls, and how to make them.

Please please please help!

  1. make beaded bracelets.  you can get all kinds of beads pretty inexpensively and a spool of beading elastic (looks like fishing line, but stretchy) is about $7 and lasts forever.  you can add an inexpensive charm, too.  avoid seed beads because they are really hard to string.  alpha beads are great for names and messages like BFF or I (heart) U.  wal-mart is a great place to get all of these at good prices, but any craft store should have these things.

    1. cut a length of elastic:  you want your finished size to fit, but you need extra to hold on to and to tie.  i usually start with 10-12 inches.  measure a few wrists to get a generic size or fit each bracelet individually.

    2. stretch it out as much as you can: pull the elasic as far as it will go.  if you don't stretch it out, it will get saggy when it's worn.  this will ensure that the finished size is accurate.

    3. choose your beads: decide on colors, patterns, charms, etc.  i like random strings, but you can do all pink, alternate two or three colors, make a rainbow, whatever.

    4. start stringing: hold one end tightly so your beads don't fall off.  thread your beads in the order you've chosen.  string enough beads to go around the whole wrist (about 4-5 inches, but meassure your girls to be sure).

    5. tie it off: pull the elasic together a little and carefully tie the two ends in a double knot.  pull the knot really, really tight!  don't use a square knot because they tend to slip.

    6. finish it: snip off the extra elastic, but leave a tiny bit so the knot won't untie itself.  try to pull a bead over the knot to hide it.  you're done!

  2. How about using yarn in your school colors to make miniature pompoms that can be worn as pins?  Just make a tassel, and tie or glue a safety pin to the back!  Friendship bracelets, again in school colors, would be another option.  If you live in a cooler climate and plan ahead for next year, hats and scarves in school colors would probably be a hit.

  3. Here is a cute little thing I found a while back.  It is a Cheerleader Survival Kit

Get a container, it can be either a pretty bag or box.

Add a Happy Face Sticker - to remind her to smile, smile, smile.

Add a Throat Lozenge - to soothe her throat after yelling for the team.

Add a Rubberband - to remind her to stretch before jumping.

Add a Star - to remind her to always do her best and reach for the sky.

Add a Puzzle Piece - because without her the squad wouldn't be complete.

Add a Starburst - to give her a "burst" of energy when she needs it.

Add some Peanuts - to remind her that it is OK to be nutty sometimes.

Here is a link to some cute ribbons to make:

This link is for a cheerleader birthday party, but has cute crafts:

Decorating cowbells used to be a cute thing to do, I'm not sure if they still do that or not, I'm getting a little older!

    Hope this helps.
