  1. What grade are you in? Grade 3?

    3 hrs= 2 cells

    24/3 = 8

    8 x 2= 16 cells in 24 hrs.

  2. multiply 3 by 8 to get 24

and then what you do to one

side you have to do to the

other so multiply 2 by 8 to

    get 16.

Cell A will produce 16 cells in 24 hrs.

  3. You can do this problem if you don't let it psych you out.  A lot of people think that they can't do math only because they suffer from math anxiety.  Also, the reference to biology might have thrown you off.  Here's how you solve the problem:

Every 3 hours, Cell A produces two cells.

How many times do 3 hours occur within a 24-hour period?

    8 times, right?  (24 / 3 = 8)

Therefore, every 24 hours, Cell A produces 16 cells.

    (8 times per day x 2 cells = 16 cells)

The correct answer is 16 cells.

Lindsey T points out that the new cells will themselves split.  However, the rate at which those cells split is not specified.  The question concerns only the rate at which Cell A produces cells.

  4. the answer is 256 because each of the splitting cells split too

                                                  0

       1hours                      0                  0

         2hours                 0   0             0   0

    etc..........
