  1. You can think of this problem in terms of slope of a line that goes through the points (1,3) and (3,28).

    (28-3)/(3-1) = 25/2 = 12.5

  2. assuming they started from 12 noon ...

at 1pm rate is 3qt per hr.

at 3pm rate is (28-3)/2 = 12.5 qt per hr.

    (3 + 12.5)/2 = 7.75 qt per hr.

  3. 28-3= 25 now there are 2 hours left so 25/2 = 12.5. Average = 28/3hours=9.3333. your family picked an average of 9.3 an hour

  4. ok 28-3 = 25

    tiem 3-1 = 2 hrs

so in 2 hrs picked 25quarts

    so i 1 hr = 12.5quarts

    thats yr averate rate
