I am going to be hosting a baby shower that my friend is giving for her daughter along with the other Grandmother to be......here's the problem. One Grandma is Filipino and is making a traditional Filipino noodle dish with pork and chicken, that is served hot and Filipino Egg Rolls.....the other Grandma insists on making a Chicken Salad over a slice of Cantelope, and even though the two don't go together at all...no one is going to compromise. One family is from Northern Michigan.....farmers.....the other from the Filipines......Can any one suggest sides...or appetizers....or something to bridge these dishes that won't make it seem like such a hodge podge? Shower is in two weeks....and I'm going to have @ 50 women at my house....Don't laugh at me...I really need help.

  1. If you are in Southern California contact headquarters BBQ for a great affordable menu

  2. just act like you meant to fix diverse foods.have some american food too like mini cheeseburgers or something.and brownies for dessert or something like that:)

  3. offer a pasta dish for a meat-free alternative...salad and appetizer/fruit platter...good desserts fix a lot!

  4. Big life events, like the birth of a child, bring out family traditions, for good or for bad.  Niether GM2B care if their foods go together.  Chicken Salad is pretty traditional for a shower in the US, and I'm guessing Lumpia (Filipino Egg Rolls) are traditional there, too.  So dont' sweat it, just fill in the gaps.  Your entrees are covered, as is an appetizer.

Have a nice big bowl of punch, some salted nuts and buttery dinner mints, and maybe a sheet cake.  (To me, THAT is traditional shower food!  I love a bite of sweet cake chased w/ a salty nut or two and a swig of punch!)  You might also offer a fruit tray, a veggie tray, and maybe some scones w/ butter and jam or petite muffins of some sort.  But your veggie tray doesn't ahve to be boring: stuff snow peas w/ herbed soft or cream cheese, then dip open side of them in crushed nuts.  Or, instead of fruit piled on a tray, make cream-cheese stuffed strawberries or a plate of cantaloupe w/ a pile of shaved proscuitto to wrap around the canta. slices.
