Hi, I have an Hp laptop that I'v had for over a year now used. But everytime I play videos on youtube for a long time or even play games like runecape it shuts down by its self in a short period of time.

I would like to know a way to fix this problem. I already bought a laptop cooler from radio shack but if doesn't seem to help. I have tried Reg cure but thats the supidist scam ever, is says its free all over the website them it tells you to register and pay for it... Not cool. I even tried connecting the laptop power supply directly to the wall outlet. The only way it will not shut off is when the laptop is not even connected at all and even then the screen goes really dark and only lasts about 20-30 mins until the battery says its running low.

I was thinking of taking it to friends house who fixes computers very cheap like 15-30 bucks maybe. So yeah any info in greatly appreciated.

  1. To be really honest, it sounds like you are using up your memory. Also sounds like you might need to replace the fan in the laptop. "shutting down by itself" is an indicator that something is overheating. Do you run games and movies all the time on the lap top? You might try cleaning out the old games, book marked places on the internet - items you just don't use anymore etc.

I suggest using PC doctor's - Spyware Dr. it runs $40 for the year, does a great job.

    Good luck!

  2. its probably a heat issue.......monitor your temps and note what temp is when it shuts down......you can use hwmonitor.....try cleaning out the vents w/compressed air....they may be blocked....also try updating your video drivers to the latest version from the manufactures site..........scott

  3. check your devices.the settings may have ;let this device shut down... or let this device bring out of stand by... there will be a check box.clear it and your good to go.to the next one and see if it has the same.just check the relevant ones like adapters printers may need to have certain settings.so be logical with what you decide

  4. From the information given I would have to agree with Scott completely, it sounds like an overheating issue. It often happens where dust, fluff, etc builds up around the cooling fan and causes the fan to run more slowly and less efficiently. Once the laptop reaches a certain temperature it will shut down to try and prevent damage to the laptop itself.

It hopefully just needs a bit of a clean. Fans can sometimes fail and need replacing but cleaning it first would be a good start.
