I recently bought a Viewsat Ultra Lite and i connected everything correctly, but once i got to the setup portion, i got stuck. It asks me to "select the desired satellite", but i don't my satellite name. I have Directv, but all I see are names such as "Koreasat 3 116.0E", "Echostar 5 129.0 W", "Galaxy 10 R 123.0 W" and many other different names. Please, i need to know the Directv satellite name and its Frequency. I live in the semi-northern part of Florida in the US.

For someone who already owns a ViewSat Ultra Lite, can you please tell me what i must do?

Please let me know if you need more information or if my question lacks the nessesary information for it to be answered. Thank You. I will be chosing the best answer.

  1. Its probably 101, though directv uses a lot of satellites....

Check your directv reciever....in the setup menu...

There are some fta channels on 101.

I have a viewsat ultra lite and watch 97 and 95 on a special dish.....

Aljazeera english is free and gives you unbiased news on 97...as are a lot of international channels...

  2. I don't own an FTA receiver, but I can suggest some satellites and ideas.  First of all, I  hope you know that Directv programming is mostly encrypted, and can't be viewed with a standard non-Directv receiver, and I presume not with anything made by Viewsat.  If a hack exists to make this possible, I would be surprised since I believe it has proven elusive to the hacker community for years, but who knows?  I know that Dish Network has was a more consistent target over the last few years, but the hacks that might exist are used are still illegal in most countries including the USA.

At any rate, DirecTV programming is transmitted using several different satellites.  One of these is called DirecTV 7S at 119.0°W while DirecTV 5  is at 110°W. To help to test things out, Galaxy 18  at 123W can probably be received in your region  with no hacks and has some free (unencrypted) content.  You can also try SatMex 5 at 116.8°W as a test, even if you don't understand Spanish, since it should come in loud and clear.
