My daughter is almost 7 months old and she has pretty long hair for a baby. her scalp gets dry and flackey and she is starting to get tangles if I don't brush her hair at least everyday. Here is a pic of her. Is there any hair or scalp treatment that is safe for an infant, or will I just have to wait until she is older to properly care for her hair?

Her hair is longer now. This pic was taken when she was about 5 months.

  1. She's adorable!  Talk to your pediatrician.  Baby shampoo should be all that you're using, unless your ped recommends otherwise.  You could try sweet almond oil (then washed out).

  2. she does have long hair!  pretty baby girl!

have you trimmed her hair?  you know how your hair is.. as it grows, the ends split, etc. and make it tangly.  maybe a small trim would help.

i just use burts bees on my son's hair (who also has long hair, i've already cut his hair twice at 11 months because people thought he was a girl!)  and i would expect that you could use some detangler on it, but i think it'd make it oily and heavy.

  3. For my baby's dry scalp the doctor said to rub baby oil on, leave it for 10 minutes, the rinse his hair.  With long hair like your baby's that might be harder though.  My boy doesn't have much hair.

  4. Talk to your doctor about the flaky scalp. My daughter had that flaky scalp when I was using just regular baby soap, so I switched to Aveeno creamy wash and it doesn't get that flaky anymore. My daughter also has A LOT of hair, and I'm starting to have to use a detangler shampoo, it hasn't dried her scalp out yet so I'm still using it, if I see signs of a flaky scalp then I'll probably just switch back to Aveeno.

Also, my SIL has used Johnsons detangler spray on her little boys hair since he was around 7-8 months, so I'm sure it'll be okay. You could (once again) always ask your doctor though, but I don't see anything wrong with it.

  5. oOH LOL she is soo cute hahah... my son has hardly any hair!! lol.     you look great after having the baby....and ur daughter looks a lot like u.

can u use no more tangles ?    as for the flakey..try looking up apple cider vinegar for baby hair.
