I need help with my baseball swing?

Question

i play baseball on a high school team. I can hit pretty good line drives and homeruns, but i strike out more than i hit the ball. So what can i do to hit the ball more times, instead of striking out all the time?

Line drives up the middle come from hitting the ball right at the front of the plate(usually a gut shot down the middle). The higher you go in baseball the better pitchers get. You will find that they will bust you inside way more often and work you away more often as well. Some hitters fail to make the adjustment in their swings and the end up swinging the same way at every pitch. The inside pitch will jam you unless you hit it out in front of the plate(most hitters pull the ball naturally) but if you try and pull the outside pitch you will roll over it weakly or pop out weakly. This is really just a timing issue. You need to work on recognizing inside-outside within the first 10 feet of flight. The outside pitch needs to be hit near the back of the plate. You actually step to it a little and keep your hands in tight to your body and take the ball to right(for a righty). Video tape yourself and I will bet that you are pulling off the outside pitch. Have someone throw you all outside pitches until you take 5 in a row the "other" way. Then have them start mixing in inside and down the middle pitches. Turn on the inside pitch early and let the outside pitch travel. Once you start feeling the difference in the timing you will start hitting balls with power to all fields. That's when hitting really gets fun. It's all about timing

get someone to pitch different colored tennis balls w/ #s on them and call out the number and color before you hit, it helps you read the spin of the ball and helps you find the ball better in a game

mabey you could try having a more compact swing. You probably wont hit as many homeruns but you wont strikeout as much

Patience is key, develop a better eye. Watch the ball closer and take more pitches. Don't swing at everything wait on your pitch.
