I just got braces yesterday and I had a Coca Cola and never brushed my teeth or anything. This morning though, I was flossing and saw that a layer of my gums in the front ( right underneath my teeth) was flaking off. I brushed my teeth and most of it came off, but I had to peel some of the remaining pieces off. I'm really grossed out, I used this mouth wash stuff to make it feel better and I put some canker paste on it. Do I have some gum disease or something?!?!?!?!?!?!

  1. when i had braces, my gums got pretty messedup with gingivistis. thankfully they didnt "flake "away like you say yours are though...

i used sterisol, tis an antibacterial mouthwash that kills the excess bacteria in your mouth so that it doesnt irritate your gums.

when you have braces youre gonna have to make sure you brsuh AND floss every single sday. because sugar and food gets caught so easily in your braces. its different having braces cause it sint so easy to get rid of the foos or sugar that can cause cavities.

if i were you id phone my ortho or dentist and ask them what you should do or whats going on there. my best guess if that your gums are just irritated by the braces and you might have some gingivitis.

alto it would seem like you got gingivitis is a days time..thats kidn weird. but then again if you doint do a good job brushing your teeth, or if you dont floss at all its possible. it isnt that ahrd to get gingivitis

  2. You can't get gum disease in less than a day. But I cannot stress to you how important brushing or flossing is when you have braces. If you don't and when the braces come off, you'll have a light line of plaque where your braces used to be. Just continue brushing and flossing and if it doesn't go away, call or visit your doctor.
