I have 4 Kicker KS650 speakers. To me, these speakers have absolutely no bass at all! Then again, I need a new headunit in my car because something is wrong in my current one. What new headunit should I get to power these speakers for the BEST BASS available? it will be in a 1998 Jetta.

  1. any after market head unit will do fine but go with the name brands you know like ken wood and alpine

  2. Ks650 specs=

    Peak Power Handling 195 watts

    RMS Power Handling 65 watts

    Sensitivity 90 dB

    Frequency Response 40 - 21000 Hz

the problem is not the radio its the LACK of RMS wattage that you have, unless you put an amp on them they will never sound too hot because they don't have the necessary RMS wattage to have them playing in their sweet spot- bass takes a lot more wattage then mids and highs so if the wattage is not there you will just get low, distorted bass because you are making the radios internal amplifier go into clipping --- so in all actuality you are doing damage to the speakers from a lack of power which causes distortion which is the leading cause of speaker damage

if you were to add a 2 or 4 channel amp with the necessary RMS wattage it would solve your problem-- and the speakers only go down to 40Hz which is not that low/deep

  3. Look for HU's that are CEA-2006 complaint.

  4. If your looking for sound clearity and quality, then there is only one suggestion that I will make for you. ALPINE and only ALPINE.
