Her name is Jemma, she lives with her buddies, Gino and Nina, who are both fine.

But she is having trouble swimming, she is swimming on her side towards the top trying to swim back down, she won't eat anything either and she has a few scales missing not many though and i am very worried about her.

Does anyone know what Jemma has and what she needs?

  1. sounds like swim bladder disease. feed her some peas

  2. Sounds like she is having trouble keeping herself straight, some fish develop problems like this when they take in too much air from gulping down their food at the surface...try to give her the sinking food, little at a time, you don't want uneaten food at the bottom of your tank, the missing scales could be from her rubbing on objects, if you see her doing this, remove the objects out of her way. Good luck I hoped this helped.

  3. Sounds like maybe a bad swim bladder. Any physical symptoms in it's appearance?

If it is a swim bladder there is no cure. i saw a lady on tv once make a semi buoyant float and tie it to her fish. Worked for her.

  4. So Jemma is a Comet Goldfish??

It sounds like swim bladder disease and poorly oxygenated water. Sudden swim bladder disease is caused by poor water quality and poorly oxygenated water is caused by lack of filtration or too high temperature.

Comet Goldfish need 50 gallons minimum for the first fish and AT LEAST 30 gallons per additional goldfish. They are large messy fish and need lots of space for heavy filtration and waste dilution. Thats why they are only typically recommended for ponds. Plus all goldfish need cold water around 60-70 degrees because cold water holds more oxygen, which they need.

Do a 50% water change and keep up with partial weekly or bi-weekly partial water changes for their tank. If you tank is too small for them, buy a bigger tank or find them a home in a friend's pond.
