Well yesterday my computer turned very slow for some reason and I dont know why! Now it takes foreveeer for web pages to load and it took me about 5 minutes to download a 3 megabite file, when it normally takes under a minute. I really want to start fresh on my computer, but I don't have the original startup disk. I borrowed one from a friend, but I was reading on the package that it said it needs a COA (certificate of authenticity), so i just dont know what to do. I've read about Linux, but im not really sure how it works, and if it does, will maplestory work on it? I just really need some help and advice, because I just want to get my computer back up and running fast. Oh and I also have 3 spyware protection files on my computer, if that has anything to do with it. Thanks in return :D

  1. Having multiple programs for spyware is bad. You should only have one for each instead of multiple spyware programs. See this article for more: http://flashcreations-faq.blogspot.com/2...

    **EDIT**

There is a difference between your computer being slow and your internet being slow. If it takes 5 minutes to download a 3MB file, call your ISP.

  2. If you really don't have a knowledge about computers, I think you need to call a local computer technician to fix it. Installing and reformating PC is somewhat complicated and technical.

  6. At the top of the Yahoo Answers Page is a typing box. Type in "Slow Computer" ( without quotes ). There are many, many questions on this subject with answers.

  7. Okay, here are a few ways you could make your computer a bit faster. Click Start in the corner. Click on "run..." then type "msconfig" without the quotes. it will pull up a box of system settings and things, click on the tab "startup" then click the box that says "uncheck all" and everything will be unchecked. this will stop everything from auto starting on boot up. if you need something to auto start then keep it checked. also, get rid of all of the anti'spyware programs and download AVG Anti Virus 7 (dont get 8 its more difficult to use). and AVG anti Spyware 7. I have it and i personally think its the best it does a great scan and everything. Another thing you could do is Disk Defragmenter. go into Start->All Programs->Accesories->System Tools->Disk Defragmentor. then run it and it will practicly scrunch all your files together to save a little bit of space on your hard drive. this should speed up your computer a little bit, and if push comes to shove, just format your hard drive and call microsoft and ask for another copy of your Windows XP, they should give you one.

Good luck with speeding up your computer.
