  1. The Canon ZR70 is a miniDV tape based camcorder.

ALL miniDV tape based camcorders transfer video from the tape to the computer using the camcorder's DV port (not USB) to the computer's firewire port (not USB) using a firewire cable (not USB).

If you are using a Macintosh, all Macs within the last 7 or so years have a firewire port. The only exception is the new Mac Air.

If you are using a Windows machine and do not have a firewire400 port, one needs to be installed. When a firewire 400 card

is properly installed and working in your computer, there is no need for a camcorder-device-specific driver.

When the camcorder is connected using firewire, it will not mount like a USB mass storage device. You launch your video editor and "Capture" (Import) the video. The camcorder needs to be in "Play" mode.

Read the camcorder's manual. Firewire, i.Link and IEEE1394a are all the same thing. If you don't have the manual, download it here:

Your other option for transferring the video is using the analog cables and an "analog/digital bridge" like
