ok i have a 1969 ford f-100, with a 360 in it. It has a 2 barrel carb, which is new and also new plugs, wires and distributor cab. it is misfiring and is eating a lot of fuel. i think its either slightly of timed or the fuel mixture is off. I need a little help on how to tune this carb. i've looked on the net and can't find a place that gives me tunning instructions. thank you

  1. It's a case of both mixture and timing as the two go hand in hand.Has the carb. been properly jetted for you engine? To do a good job and get it right you need to know what your doing and have all the right tools. Also, never believe that all new parts are good, you do get faulty parts occasionally for instance,I bought a new distributor cap for my ford and after a lot of additional work to try and stop it from misfiring I found a tiny crack in it.Also, its not unheard of to get duff new plugs and leads. Its one of these jobs (with several new parts both petrol and electrical) that is worth getting set up right with proper testing equipment , then its dead easy to maintain it.

  2. double check fire-ring order check all gap on plug

    b fore i play w carb

saw to many ppl playing w cap and wire  mix then u easy

    as for new carb

there give u info on how to install then  dvd and have help line too

    carter and holly good service

  3. I would suggest taking it to a mechanic, once he has finished with it play dumb and ask lot of question about the process. Sometimes this strategy has worked for me even though I am somewhat savvy My next suggestion is get a manual or how to book on your truck, LMC trucks and Year One both sell books and or manuals. Hope this helps.

P.S. one more thought, Find an old dude who remembers how to do it.

  4. get the engine warmed up and you will see 2 adjustment screws on the front of the carb, hook up a tachometer or a vaccum gauge and turn both screws in until they lightly seat and then back each one out 1.5 turns then adjust each s***w until you get the highest reading on whatever gauge you use and then turn each s***w in about 1/4 a turn, reset your idle s***w on the throttle linkage so the vehicle idles about 950 RPM in park and your done.

  5. im not a mechanic...but my best answer is to take it to sombody that is....forget the headache of troubleshooting...pay to get it done right..and there is always warranty work if it does'nt...you dont have to take it in the shorts each time you spend money you "thought"you had the problem solved!!!  Bust out with the coin and you will be a happy camper!!!
