Here's what I'm suppose to do:

Using an example of each, diagram how each of these types of figures detail unique and necessary information. When is it more important to use a photograph? When is it more important to use a drawing? Be specific to the examples you choose and generalize from them their importance in understanding the information contained in the picture.

So can you guys help me with this? Do you know when is it more important to use a photograph or drawing?

Thanks in advance!

  1. It could be important to use a photo b/c a photo captures reality.  Yes, you can crop and change but take away all the bells and whistles and what you snap is what you get.

A drawing, on the other hand, can be a product of the artist's perception of reality.  They can draw a tree any way the like and as long as it's what their perception is, it can be considered "correct."  Maybe not accurate in reality but correct nevertheless.

    That's all I got.

  2. just like Feisty said, depending on what your end goal is you would use either the photograph or the drawing accordingly. Example: in some court cases the media is not allowed to bring cameras so they draw depictions of what happens in the court room to convey the idea to the public of what the artist perceived. Using the court room example again, when either side, defense or prosecution, is submitting evidence for the court to view a picture is worth a thousand words. Does that make sense?

  3. A photograph is necessary when documenting a crime scene so there can be no question as to what was there and where it was. A drawing is better than a picture when you are planning something. For example an interior designer will draw a picture of how she want a room to look. You can't take a picture of what doesn't exist yet.

  4. A photograph is important when needing to record a site exactly -- i.e. physical evidence of a crime. A drawing when you wish to convey a mood or tone.
