I recently got two goldfish, like three day's ago.

I have everything so I need no help with all that jazz.

But I need to know like what fish I can mix and how many I can put in one tank.

I have a 5 gallon tank and my two gold fish that are about two inches long.

Would I perhaps be able too put a snail and another fish of the same size or a tad smaller.

  1. Sorry but I also feel that your tank is overfull with 2 fish in it. Imho, you need a tank 2x the size of yours.

Or better yet rent a backhoe and dig a pond like I did, cuz I'm a freakin' weirdo.

Keeps me out of trouble though  =P

  2. Goldfish need about 10 gallons per a fish. Trade it in for a betta. You can acually probably get 3 female bettas. Or a few zebra danios or 3 african dwarf frogs. So the answer is no you cant get any more fish. Unless you get a 25 or 30 gallon tank, then you could get 1 more goldfish or a school of neons. Return the goldfish to the store.

  3. Despite what you said, you don't have everything you need. The tank needs to be at least ten gallons per fish. Goldfish get big (about 8 inches) and produce a lot more waste than other fish. Take the goldfish back to the store and get a betta, because that's the only fish that would be happy in a 5 gallon tank.

  4. A 5 gallon is too small for two goldfish! First of all what type of goldfish are they? The smallest breed of goldfish can grow up to 8 inches! A 5 gallon will be ok for now but in a few months you will need a 15-20 gallon tank.

  5. Your tank is FULL!  Goldfish produce more waste than other fish. A good rule of thumb is 1 inch of fish per gallon of water.

  6. you should try to contact your local fish store. they will most likely no the answer to your question.

  7. i wouldnt add anymore fish but you will need a plant to combat their waste your fish will be ok for like 3 months TOPS did by anychance you get told "they wont get big in a small tank" because thats a lie if you just bought the tank ring the shop and get mad beacause i did that once and the gave me my money back lol maybe just have one fish!

  8. You should do research before you get a fish. Esoecially goldfish!!!! Goldfish get VERY big and require large tanks. just one needs 20 gallons and another is an extra 10. They also need a strong filter due to their ammonia. I have goldfish out side in a pond where they belong. 3 are 10 inches and others are 4 inches. They need to be in a much larger tank. They can also live for 20 years. So if youre going to keep fish, do it the right way. Buy them a BIGGER tank so they can grow and be happy. A goldfish might look cute in a small 5 gallon but its not right. Its cruel. Take them back to the store and get one betta fish.

  9. Everybody is on the right track...but a little advice bout goldfish.

If you just have a "common" goldfish or even the "feeder" goldfish...then you talking about fish that can get up to 2 feet long.

If it is the fantails or fancy...then you are looking at bout 8 inches or so a piece...and they are chubby critters.

Goldfish need great filtration and a large surface area...Filtration due to being a "dirty" fish.  They put out a lot of waste partly due to the fact they are "constant" eaters or eat at every opportunity.  They also need room to swim.  Surface area is important for oxygen and swimming...so a hex tank is not recommended compared to a long tank for Goldfish.

Each Goldfish needs about 20 Gallons and then I have heard 10 Gallons per Goldfish after...this is more for the Fantails and Fancy.

For the Common or "feeder" Goldfish, you are looking at a small pond or about 100 Gallons for 2-3 of these guys...with great filtration and great space for swimming.

Sorry, but these are also cold water fish.  In a pond it is not uncommon to see Plecos with these guys...they also get about 18 inches long...and need a minimum 75 gallon tank when full grown.

    Best of Luck!

  10. 1.Your tank is already overstocked. Goldfish need 10 gallons each, even if they are only 2 inches now, they will get much bigger and a 20 gallon aquarium is needed for them to thrive.

2.Goldfish care cold water and there are not many other large cold water fish. Any small cold water fish(Like rosy red minnows or zebra danios) would be eaten by the goldfish once it gets larger. You can return the goldfish can get minnows or danios, or buy the goldfish a larger aquarium.;)
