On my automatic car my gear box looks like this - P R N D 3 2 1 - Is it safe to drive it like a manual car and shift the gear from 1 2 3 on a straight road?

  1. not really, and not necessary.

  2. Yes, it is, but you're gaining much. The only time to bother driving an automatic like a standard is in slippery conditions.

I'm not going to get into the engineering of it; basically the tranny shifts at the optimal point for the vacuum being drawn. The amount of vacuum being drawn is dependent on the throttle position.

  3. yes it is. but remember that it is not a good thing to over rev a car in a lower gear. you overpressurize the transmission. keep the rpms within the tolerance limits of each gear speed.

  4. It is designed not to be driven that way because you can over rev the engine and transmission that will lead to serious repairs...

  5. No, it is not a good idea. The 1,2, and 3 mean that that's the highest gear it will go (put in on 1 and it will stay on 1, on 2 it will stay on two, and so on.) Just put it in drive and it will shift itself, you needn't tear up your transmission.

  6. its basicly a tiprtonic car you can drive on the manual but remember that you have to put it on N when you stop
