Jeez, do you have a sadistic English teacher or what???  Guess, he/she wants to establish who is boss  or something.  OK..now that I have vented let me try to help.  Well, I would say that theatre is an artisticc  medium and the lines that someone speaks are in italics or quotes in the non computer world and mostly there is a thematic flavor to a play ( it is a  comedy, tragedy, mystery etc), there are ushers now with the last two I shall have to stretch a bit but youth has always been attracted to this art form as a way to play with possible identity changes.  Rudolph Valentino was a famous actor who had the young girls of America swooning because he played a mysterious person, a sheik and they could project onto him their dreams and fantasies.  And that is theater..getting out of your false personality, trying

on another, learning about the human condition etc. Playing with life!
