I need help with my internet, it have some viruses...10 points!!!?

My Internet is running soooo slowly... every 4 minutes or so I get a fullscreenn pop-up, but a full 45 seconds better I even see the pop up, my internet works at dinosaur pace and I can't do anything. I have window's defender, ad-aware and avg,and none of them have taken care of the pop ups. I asked a question similar to this a while ago, and someone said "Run ad-awar in safe mode". What is safe mode? If it helps, i have a windows xp computer, and on top of every pop-up it says CiD:

I'm really not good with computers, so I'd appreciate it you put your answers in laymans terms.

it is your computer not internet so you need to have your computer looked at and fixed

restart your computer and as soon as the first screen comes up press F8. You can choose a number of options here but you want Safe Mode.

DO NOT PICK safe mode with networking or safe mode with command prompt.

Once you are in safe mode you can run your ad-aware and avg anti-virus.
