i have bt broadband and hub.

My pc got a trojan, and my brother took my pc away to get rid of it and upgrade the ram.

The internet connection was working fine before he took it. He did not try to connect it to his broadband.

When i try to use the internet, it says to check the connection. My hub works fine as i can connect my phone and wii through it. It is connected to my pc with an ethernet cable and usb cable. I have a wireless pci which has never really worked.

I have used the bt broadband disc to reinstall software, but it doesnt do anything.

Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

Thanks.

  1. You should have either the ethernet connection or the USB connection to your modem. Try first only one, if that doesn't work (give it a minute) then pull that out and try only the other. Reset the modem each time.

Check that the Hub's link light comes on when you plug in the ethernet cable from your PC. If not, there's a cabling issue. Fix and retest.

If ok, (in XP) open up Control panel->Network connections-> Local area connection.

Check that it is "enabled". If not enable it and retest.

If it is enabled, click on "properties", a new window will appear select "Internet protocol [TCP/IP]", click on the properties button.

Under general, these settings should usually be set to "obtain IP address automatically" and "obtain DNS address automatically". If numbers are there already write them down (in case you have to go back to them). Set the two 'automatic' checkboxes. Wait a minute or so then retest.

    -----------------------

If you can't even successfully open the network connection properties window (3nd step above), check the hardware and driver are installed.

My computer->properties->hardware tab->device manager->network adapter (for ethernet connection). Select your hardwired adapter. double-click on it, a panel will open. Under the general tab you will find device status, which will tell you if it's working properly. If not, you might need to find and reload the driver.

    Hope this helps

  2. If you have connected the hub with Ethernet cable and a USB cable they probably are conflicting against one another try just plugging  one of them in to your computer

  3. you didnt say what operating system the pc has?

check the workgroup name is the same as the SSID on the router (login to your router to check its SSID) right click my computer (vista: computer) > properties> check the workgroup name

    try:

start > run > type in: cmd (if vista:

Start > All Programs> Accessories > right click Command Prompt choose 'run as administrator)

type the following commands exactly as they are written here press enter after each

    netsh winsock reset catalog

    netsh int ip reset reset.log

(for vista: netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log)

you will need to reboot after for changes to take effect

  4. Turn off the pc then turn off the power to the hub for thirty seconds. Turn the hub back on then power up the pc.

  5. try pressing the "wireless accosiation" button on the side of the hub! broadband light and wirelesss light should be green
