  1. get the idea protected with a paitent befor yiou take it anywhere

  2. I don't quite understand how you can lower the number of deaths from a house fire, you can either save them or not its not like you can say right 6 people live in this house and if theres a fire only 3 will be saved. Don't really understand your question. If you feel you have a good life saving idea and it relates to fire then first patent your idea so as to protect it then why not approach one of the fire alarm companies even the fire service HQ. It would help if you elaborated a bit in your question

  3. Dont waste your time.  if you look at how many deaths there are in a year in house fires it is actually very small. In general, people do not spend money on items to alleviate low risks.

  4. Lola is right, unless you are that public spirited enough you contact your local Fire Service Department, go along to your local patent office and check first of all that no one else has had your idea before you, then look into patenting your idea.

If it is a piece of equipment, it's most important you do this before approaching possible manufacturers, as otherwise they could 'legally' steal it and claim it as your own.
