  1. Don't throw the ball too high, it leaves more of a chance for the throw to be off, and the toss is very important. You don't want it too low either because that will make it next to impossible. Practice, practice, practice. I wouldn't use it in a game until you get at least 80% over the net.

  2. I love jump serving!!!! But, I can tell you right now that it is really hard to get the hang of. I've been playing volleyball for 4 years, and I'm only 14, so you can imagine how hard I had to push myself to nail it. (btw, i'm 5'6'') It is really hard to explain, but i'll try. If you are left handed, do the opposite of everything I'm telling you.

    1) Take the ball in your left hand and make sure that your left foot is pointed straight (it has to be in front of your right foot)

    2) throw up the volleyball 2 feet in front of you, but make sure that it is high enough so that you will hit the volleyball when you jump up.

    3) While the volleyball is in the air, run while you do your three step approch as if you were going to spike the ball.

    4) Make contact with the ball and pray that it'll soar across the net! jk

remember: it takes a lot of practice to finally nail the jump serve, and the hardest part is trying to throw up the ball so that it is high enough when you are jumping and far enough so that when you are running, that ball will be directly in front of you and not behind you. Try practicing by throwing up the ball and pretending that you are going to jump up and hit it. I suggest that you don't try to do both things at once (hit the ball when you jump and throw up the ball accurately) because it will be harder  to do. Good luck!!!!

  3. well first of all the jump serve is basically a spike from really far back. i find it easier to throw the ball as i start my approach. since your 5'5 i would suggest hitting the ball a little bit up into the air so it has a little arch to it. if your having trouble with i would suggest just throwing the ball up in the air for a while to see where it well be at its highest point and then adding the approach this well make it so you have a rough idea of when to start your approach. i find its easiest to hit the ball at the highest point of the arch you well also get the most power from that point

  4. This is what I do, difficult to explain but I'll try: First I take the ball in my left hand (if you hit it with your right, do the opposite if you hit with your left of course). I take one step almost in a running fashion like a big one, almost like your 3step approach for a spike. Then on my big second step I toss the ball up as I step, plant my feet and jump as high as I can, reach up to the balls peak (highest it gets beforer it starts decending) and hit it with the momentum of my body high enough with top spin (rolling your fingers off to make it go downward) to go over the net and down. Your height doesn't matter, I've seen girls shorter than you do it and I'm only 5'6/5'7 so just work on it. On the second step, sometimes you can take a 3rd, just try it over and over somwhere you can practice until you get comfortable with it. It's so hard to explain that but i hope it helped. Be sure to get a good toss too. My biggest problem is i get too ahead of myself wanting to jump up and make a perfect serve but i end up rushing my toss and throw it too low and then when i jump its already at my middle of my body and cant go over the net of course. Just practice it and don't be afraid to in front of people, they'll be jealous when you have an awesome jump serve because you tried something new. =)

  5. Well 1st of all u don't have to be very tall to jump serve...I am only 5'5 myself. Jump serveing is hard but it isn't impossible. It is hard to explain too... well first it is just like spiking (ur feet motions) left right together jump. Ok? U through the ball pretty high a little higher than ur normal serving throw...then do ur feet motions and hit it!!! Help? hope so!! it is really hard I almost got it myself!! LOL!

  6. im only 5'1" and i seriously dont think i could ever do a jump serve! i can barely get the ball over the net with a regular serve. and i cant jump high at all!!!
