I have been looking for a job for over a month now and was told today that I cant find a job because my resume doesn't sell. I am stuck on stupid. I used to work in the self storage industry and just graduated vocational business school. Looking for a new career as an office assistant or related field. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks

  1. I used this resume writing service in my area, this is the email address, (resume.help50@yahoo.com) you should try them, it only cost me $35.00 and I got a great job from this new resume, I never thought about the format that they use but the turn around time was less then 24 hrs.  I would have to say it was the best service I have ever used and it was worth every dime.  Also they let me pay through paypal.

  2. I am not sure who told you that you can't find a job because your resume doesn't sell.  If it was a potential employer then he was lying because a resume's job is to get you an interview.  Obviously your resume worked 'cause you interviewed with him/her.  Regardless of who told you, a resume's main objective is to get you an interview.  So you have to put relevant info about your experiences which will show a potential employer how you can add value.  For office assistant, talk about skills that you possess which would help you do the job.  ie multi-tasking, typing, organization, etc.  There are tons of job search sites that'll help with your resume.  monster.com, yahoo jobs, etc.  Hope this helps and good luck.

  3. when you are writing your resume dont just put down what you know and your skills, put down all of your strongest accomplishments, whether they were in school or on a previous job. since your a recent college grad, you probably dont have too much work expereince. employers will understand that. say for example, you worked at the local supermarket....just saying....as a checkout person.....make it sound impressive dont just say checkout person for the title. everyone these days knows how to use ms office. try to bring out features that most people wouldnt think to include on their resume for example extensive knowledge of features on MS Word, including Styles, Redlining, ect. dont make up a short novel, just get to the point but include important aspects of it. Im a legal secretary and a fairly recent collegre grad...i know how tough it is but hang in there make sure you include your typing speed, if your doing 60 wpm now, practice more...typingtest.com...aim for 65. most admin jobs require 60+

  4. You may also try a staffing compant that specializes in placing Admin/clerical candidates. Sometimes they will even help out with the resume for free. Some good ones are Executive Staffing Group, Randstadt, Monarch and Manpower.
