so i am 14 I'm planning on trying out for my high school volleyball team (i'll be a freshman) and i played for my eighth grade team and i even played club. during club i was a libero which is what i am going to try to be on this team. But over the summer i've lost a lot of my stamina and endurance and stuff. So i already know we're going to have to run a lot so i really need to gain my stamina back. Please help.

oh if you also have any tips on how i could spike better and jump higher i would also really appreciate it. My serves are already really good :) but my timing when i'm doing my approach to spike is really bad. (btw i'm pretty short 5'1)

so please help me out i have a little over a month

  1. I am a varsity high school coach and I coach club, so here is what I suggest. Run 3-5 times a week. If you are first in the conditioning drills the coach will notice. Run about 1-2 miles, try to get to where you don't have to walk. You can actually whip yourself in to shape in about 2 weeks so you have plenty of time. Do pushup, you should be able to do about 20 without stopping. If you can't now work your way up. To jump higher look in to plyometrics, I am sure google will help you find some moves. Timing for the shorter ones is difficult, you have to hit off the net so ask your setter to set you off a bit so you have room to get it over. You probably will be primarily a back row player so work on attacking from the back court and focus on DEFENSE and SERVE RECEIVE. Talk it up, be aggressive, and never give up on a ball. These are things that will make you stand out from the crowd...good luck!

  2. haha small world. :) im an upcomming freshman vball player too. :]

i get why ur askin about stamina tips...especially bcuz ur gonna be a libero...but hey dont sweat it...if your good enuff to make club, then you can definately make a high school team.

    good luckk. :]

    peace.

  3. To strengthten your stamina you should drink a lot of water. if you can jog for at least 5-10 minutes without walking you are pretty good for that. skillsin volleyball can not be perfect immediately so just try and try until you succeed.

  4. run for stamina, to help jump try leg weights (find them at sporting good stores)  and for your aproach leave when the ball is at its highest point, be asked to be set off the net, and step left, right, left and jump off both feet straight up in the air.

  5. Volleyball players are more of sprinters than endurance athletes so do full out sprint walk intervals for about half an hour. I also do a few miles at 75% just to help me with the long practices. I also do jumps with 20 pound dumbells to build up leg strength. lunges and weighted squats will also help. practice the foot work for the approach.
