I'm writing a story, and the protagonist's name is Shailene (pronounced Shy-leen). Which spelling looks better?

-Shailene

-Shaileen

And what last name suits her? She's sarcastic, realistic, and stubborn.

-Greene

-Stryler

-Stone

Or can you suggest your own last name, if none of them match? Thanks :)

  1. Greene for the last name

    Shaileen for the first name

  2. Don;t use Greene as the last name, Shaileen (that is the first name spelling I prefer) Greene sort of sounds like a stripper name, it rhymes and I am not a fan of rhyming first and last names. I also have never been a fan of first and last names starting with the same letter, so I would not use the other two either.

I like the last name of Walsh

If the character is pure and innocent- White

    caring and nurturing- Lovelace

I also like the names of Jackson, Kearns, Freidman, McDonald and Harris.

Hope some or any of this has helped. Whatever you decide just make sure it is a name that you are comfortable with and is one that fits your character

  3. First and foremost the reader will pronounce as they see it. You're not going to insert phonetics, so a quirky name could turn off a reader. Likely in the readers mind it will be read and interpreted as Shhleen...and a rule of writing...DON'T RHYME A NAME! In other words...NOT GREENE, that's not good. That worked for Dr. Suess, but not for anyone else! If you want a name that implies the characters a sarcastic, stubborn, realist...how about the name Shaileen Ruell (Rule) ...obviously she's got her set of rules. (why not just spell Shaileen as you want it to be understood...it's much cooler with a "Y"...Shyleen)

I wish you luck and success on your story!!!

  4. Personally, I think Shaileen ( the readers will pronounce it the way you want it pronounced by spelling it that way) and Stryler has a nice ring to it ( strong and assertive).

Shaileen Greene is too much "eeene" .

Shaileen Stone doesn't conjure up the woman of strength and character that you are trying to portray.

Hope my two cents worth helps.

  5. shailean gray seems nice but out of those three i would go with greene because a color has so many sades because a person is multi-demensional not flat

  6. Stone.

I think if she stubborn she would stick to her idea of things therefor a stone.

    Shaileen.

It will be easier for your readers to pronounce her name.

  7. Shailene Greene makes the girl sound human and surreal. Stone and Stryler sound a bit unreal for a character.

  8. I personally like Stryler because it matches with two syllables. My second favorite is Stone...and I dislike Greene because it rhymes with her first name. In reality, few people rhyme in both names (that I've encountered), so those two are more realistic and pleasant sounding. I hope I was able to help!

  9. uh either first name i think i guess shailene if i had to choose

    NOT greene they rhyme!

i guess shailene stone but i dont really like any of thos last names
