I need help with our bills?

I have been unemployed for three months. My wife is also unemployed but does do some babysitting. I get unemployment but after the house payment, car payment, gas and groceries there is very little left. I am active in looking for work but keep getting told I'm overqualified. I can't even get a job in a grocery or department store. We have no medical insurance so when we do need medical care I put in on our credit cards. To date I've accumulated almost $26k in credit card debt. I'm not sure where to turn...debt consolidation, debt refinancing, bankruptcy? At this point I'll take any assistance that people can give me whether it be money or advice. Please help!

  1. Never ever get that much debt. When you don't have the funds its time to cough up the keys and move into an apartment.

As far as saving money cut back. And by that I mean really cut back. Aldi, Save-a-lot. Ramen noodles for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Clothes from goodwill/walmart. Drive as little as possible.

Plenty of jobs out there. True some a little degrading and don't pay well, but sometimes you have to bite the bullet.

  2. I'm so sorry to hear about that. I am out of work, too, but live with my dad. When I was married, we went to the Consumer Credit Counseling Service. They were really nice there but my husband did not like giving up the credit cards so he chose bankruptcy instead (and lost all the credit anyway). I find bankruptcy to be so completely embarrassing. I know some people also make extra money doing odd jobs for family and friends, like painting or yardwork. I hope you find a job soon. Have you tried your state job service? Sometimes they help but not always.

  3. just keep looking for a job, people dont donate to us poor shmucks...they want us to work for money, they dont care about our sitiuations. Maybe if some  of these rich billion dollar over rated "ACTORS" DONATED some of their billions to OUR country instead of the 3rd world countries. our country would be in a better state, then we could help the other countries..it makes me sick how much money those people make.while the entire country is near depression.

  4. Call a bankruptcy attorney immediately.  When you go into debt refinancing or debt consolidation you are often held responsible by the IRS for the taxes on the amounts of bills you didn't pay!  In other words, if you have a credit card bill in the amount of $10,000 and a payout is arranged of $5,000 you are still liable for the taxes on the $5,000.  Bankruptcy is the safest way to go and it won't ruin your credit forever.

  5. A few years ago when I was having a hard time finding work (I too was told I was overqualified) I decided to leave some stuff off of my resume and it worked!!  I took off some of my education (basically I just put that I had a high school diploma only) and the very next job I applied for, I got.  I know it sucks to have to do that but you gotta do what you gotta do sometimes......People don't like to higher overqualified people out of fear that they will leave for a better job shortly.  Understandable but it still sucks....good luck!!!

Can you guys apply for public assistance (food stamps) to cut down on your grocery bill and I dont know how old your kids are but they should be elligle for medicaid

  6. You're screwed. Sell the car and the wife.
