Question:

I need help with painting my kitchen

My house is almost 98 years old. And the kitchen was built in the early 50's. So I am trying to keep with a theme and not go to new while we remodel the kitchen. It is getting gutted for the most part.

The issue is being a add on to a add on...it has 4 doors in the room. And 3 windows. That is alot of trim. I want the trim to sort of blend around the doors. Plus there was bad painting years back. So there are layers of paint and drips..

So do I paint the trim the same as the walls? Will that help it blend?

And should I remove all the paint off the trim boards first or just softly sand them?

  1. well i would go with a shade darker or lighter for your frames!

it is best to remove all the paint prior to painting but if you want to sand them i'm sure it won't look to bad!

  2. Painting all one color will definitely help blend it. It depends, stripping the paint will take a lot of time and work. I would try the sanding first, if it works then you won't have to strip it. You can also use a razor blade scrapper to knock off the run marks, then sand to smooth. Hope this helps. Good luck with your project.
