I need help with recording equipment?

Soooo, I've been working on some acoustic songs - randomly - but all I have is this S****y recording program. It doesn't do jack-sqwat and I was hoping someone could point in the direction of good sound equpiment. Anything that uses a simply microphone (for the computer) would be fine. It would also be VERY nice for it to do things like doubling (overlay)

the best improvement would be to bypass the computers internal sound card, and use a USB mic mixer such as any Alesis Multimix model for file capture (recording).
