Ok...I know that there's some kind of powder that you put in the stump and water it...but idk what it's called! i found something called stump-not that's a nott product, but idk if it works, and u have to buy it online. i was wondering if anyone knew of anything like this that i can buy at a local store (i live by things like wal-mart, lowe's, home depot...). i would like the name of the product too! links would be greatly appreciated!

...and if anyone has actually tried stump-not, or a product like it, did it work???

  1. yes the stuff works and you can buy it anywhere,,why the h**l are you buying it online?? it has a couple of names but its all the sam product. its an enzyme that over time rots the stump down to a crumbly mass. Just go to a big gardening store and tell them what you need,,i'm sure they have it there.

  2. I have seen several "stump rotter" products over the years.  They all contained fertilizer, usually potassium nitrate.  The basic idea is that the bacteria and fungi, which rot the stump, need a nitrogen source (to make proteins).  The stump is basically a big lump of carbohydrate (cellulose is polymerized glucose).  I drilled some holes in some oak stumps,  that were too close to the house to remove any other way, and filled them with potassium nitrate.  After a couple of years the stumps had rotted away at the base, where the roots attach, and I was able to "wobble" them out of the ground.  Slow, but it worked in my case.

I suspect that any water soluble fertilizer (ex.  Miracle-gro) would work just as well.  Just don't expect any short term stump destruction.

  3. I believe what you're referring to is tri-sodium phosphate (TSP). You can get it at any home improvement store. I forget which department.
