  1. I also am writing a book that involves royal titles! Here is what I found:

-When addressing a King or Queen, they are always referred to as His or Her Majesty, sometimes His/Her Majesty King/Queen ..... [insert name]

-When addressing a Princess or Prince, they are always referred to as His/Her Royal Highness, sometimes His/Her Royal Highness Princess/Prince ...... [insert name]

    Also, when saying His/Her Majesty, King/Queen ......,

You would typically insert a first name/Christian name [which is the name they were given at their baptism] there, but on occasion people might address them as [example:] Her Majesty, Queen Marietta Johnson, which means you would use their surname as well as their Christian name.

This applies to Princes and Princesses as well.

  2. The Yugslavian Royal family lives in the United States. They were never crowned. The father was born in London four years after his father, the king, left the country and established a monarchy in exile.

    GRANDFATHER- THE KING

King Peter II left Yugoslavia in April 1941. He became king at the age of 11 when his father was assasinated and ruled under a regency. At age 17.5 he was declared to be of legal age to rule as monarch. Ten days later the Luftwaffe began shelling the city, and within a month the teenage king had to flee the country. He was married three years later in exile. He died in November 3, 1970 at age 47 of liver failure.

    FATHER-THE CROWN PRINCE

Aleksandar Karađorđević, born July 17, 1945 is the claimant to the throne of Serbia. He was born as Crown Prince Alexander of Yugoslavia. At the time of his birth, his father was King of Yugoslavia, making him Yugoslavia's last crown prince. With the formation of a communist republic and the subsequent disintegration of the state of Yugoslavia, Alexander is now claimant to only the throne of Serbia. Serbia is currently a republic.

    SON-THE HEREDITARY PRINCE

Hereditary Prince Peter was born February 5, 1980 in Chicago, Illinois, United States. If the monarchy had not been abolished, he would be Crown Prince and his father would be King. But since his father was never crowned he is referred to as the hereditary Prince.

Prince Peter is an American citizen by virtue of his birth.

There are still Serbians who favor the restoration of the monarchy after 67 years.

  3. Kings or queens who are no longer reigning are properly addressed as Your Majesty.  You will recall that Queen Elizabeth's mother, The Queen Mother, was always addressed in this way.

  4. As previously answered its entirely up to you. In the UK only the reigning monarch (the King or Queen, but not a Prince or Queen Consort ) is refered to as Your Majesty. Senior royals (eg Prince of Wales, Duke of York) are addressed as Your Highness (or formally your Royal Highness). Any other royals are addressed by their titles. Duke of Lancaster, Lord Lowther etc.

  5. Americans do not use titles.A foreign royal may use her/his title."Majesty" is used only by a reigning monarch and spouse. If the sovereign is visiting America he/she would be addressed as "Your Majesty," upon introduction and "Sir" or "Ma'am" there after.A non-royal duke or duchess is "My Lord Duke," "Madam" but are introduced as "His Grace/Her Grace, the Duke/Duchess of--"

A good site for you to use is http://www.users.chinet.com/~laura/html/...

which goes into proper uses of titles.

  6. It's your story so you make the rules.
