I am a sophmore in highschool and i love to play soccer. Well the problem is is that idk wich team i wanna be on , the jv or the varsity team. I wanna be on the varsity team cuz it will look good and i can get better. But i dont want to be there because i can mess up and ruin evrything and they play really fast and i dont think i can do that, and i might be benched because they have all 4 starting deffenders. I want to play on jv because it will be easier for me to be recognized. I dont want to play there because players on the varsity get more spotlight. IDK which to chooose, some ppl help me. i no ppl are gonna say im an idiot lol. But If i wanna be on varsity i gotta do a lot more in try outs. I gotta do 2 miles in under 14 minutes to be one of the ppl to be chosen to be on varsity. Our varsity soccer team is realy really good.

  1. you should play on the JV team man. It reminds me of when I was in high school. there was that varsity team that had the best players in the entire school, but they did poorly because they couldn't play as a team. I am not saying that's what's gonna happen in your school but, the fact that some varsity players are so good, they get all cocky and don't even pass the ball and usually underestimate those who are benched. while, in the JV team, some players are less good and it usually is a team. so they sometimes do better than the varsioty guys. besides, you are only in tenth grade, you should play in JV this year really well, then, next year your coach will probably ask you to be in varsity where you will play even better so that you can be your Varsity captain team during your senior year. good luck!!!

  2. I dunno how the teams work in the US but is there any possibility to start in the jv and prove yourself then go to varsity at some later point in time? I'd say don't rush yourself and allow yourself the time to develop in an average team and you will know when the time is right to head to a better team.

Football has a lot to do with confidence. If you don't quite have the confidence and are worried about messing up, then the time probably isn't right to join the varsity team. And in regards to wanting to be in the spotlight, what would you rather have happen? Be the star in the jv team, or the benchwarmer in the varsity team?
