how fast does an intercity train travel? 60mph ,80mph ,125mph.

how much does an intercity train weigh? 100tonnes, 400tonnes, 20tonnes, 50tonnes.

what were trains powered by fifty years ago?

what two things do trains run on today?If a train is traveling at 125mph and it brakes suddenly how far will it travel before it stops? about ten car lengths, 1mile, 1 and a half miles or half a mile.

Can a train swerve to avoid a person on a track? if not ,why?

  1. Slow 90mph, Fast 125mph.

    Small 400 tons, large 700 tons.

    Diesel and Steam.

    Diesel and Electric.

    Half Mile at least.

    2. Varies depending on how many carriages there are but average would be 500 tons.

    3. In 1958 most inter-city trains were steam powered but diesel and electric locomotives were starting to appear.

    4. Inter-city trains today are diesel or electric powered.

    5. A train travelling at 125mph needs around a mile to stop, more if it is going downgrade.

    6. A train can't swerve, because its path is fixed to the tracks.

    However if it is approaching an obstruction on the track ahead and there is a junction with another track in between, it is possible for the signaller to switch the train to the other track.
