A pamphlet is made by taking a certain number of sheets of paper (let's say n sheets), stapling them in the middle and folding them in half.

If we started with n sheets of paper, there would be 2 n (2 times n) sheets in the pamphlet (after folding) and so there would be 4 n (4 times n) pages in the pamphlet (counting both the front and back of each sheet as a page). The pages are numbered from 1 to 4 n. The staples are then removed and one of the original sheets is removed. It is noted that the 4 page numbers on this sheet are 37, 38, 63, and 64. How many sheets of paper did we start with? That is, what is n?

  1. n=(L-A)/D+1

    Number = (Last - First [i dont know how a = first]) / difference + 1

    N = (64 - 2)/2+1

    =32

  2. I'm stumped. But if you use a calculater to keep track of where you are during the problem, it will be much easier to understand. (Sorry that's probably not the best way to put it, but I can't think of any better way to word it.) Good Luck!

  3. Each sheet will have four page numbers on it.

    If you add the first and third page numbers together and divide by four, you will get the total number of sheets.

    So, 37 + 63 = 100

    100/4 = 25

    25 sheets
