Today I was fired from an Investment Bank. The company fired me, because of the actions of someone else. On Monday, the job received a letter from a disgruntled ex-boyfriend of my girlfriend. He blames me for the break-up of their relationship, but in all actuality it was he who brought the demise of the relationship.

He retaliated by sending derogatory information to my job to the CEO’s of the company! He wrote about how I gave my company a false resume, meaning I excluded a job where I was fired, but only worked with this company for 3 months. The agency decided not to have it placed on my resume.

Then he said I was involved in Credit Card Fraud, which is not true! Then he sent a picture with sexual content in it stating that he need a penile implant and how he should use Viagra, which my girlfriend sent it to him. It was so embarrassing to sit in front of HR and explain myself! Then he mentioned how I was arrested, that’s true, because he placed a false report which is called a 61. It was dismissed and the case has been sealed.

Certain accusations prompted the job to conduct an investigation of all my emails. HR stated the investigation will look for any emails pertaining to his accusations.

Do I have any legal rights!

  1. Were you fired, or suspended pending an investigation?  In any case, it appears you have not been completely honest with your employer about your background.  Companies don't typically fire valued employees, even employees with messy personal lives.

You may have legal recourse to sue this individual for defamation of character, slander, and/or libel, especially if your employment was ended as a result.  Consult with an attorney in your area to be sure.

    Good luck.
