I need help with using Word on my Mac...?

So I have a Macbook and I have Microsoft Office on it, and I did something for my dad on my computer on Microsoft Word. I sent the document to my dad and he could not open it because my version of Word was not compatible with his, which is older than mine. Does anyone know how to convert the document so that it will be compatible with his version of Word? I know there is a way but I am just not sure what it is.

Thank you!!

  1. Word should convert one version to another automatically, or at least give you the option of converting one version to the other.  Have your dad open his version again and see if you can find that option anywhere.

I use both Office 2003 and Office 97 with no differences at all.  But this is the PC versions, not Mac versions, so there may be a difference I'm not aware of.

  2. Simple. Save it as an .rtf file (or whatever file says Word 2003 Compatible or whenever version your dad has) -- There should be a drop down box in your menu that is pre-selected to save it as .doc: this is what you need to change.

    hope that works!
