I gamble for a living and so degenerates are very profitable for me. Over almost 20 years I've never seen anyone get help despite the best intentions of friends and family. So when this doesn't work don't blame yourself.

The materials from Gambler Anonymous and Gambling Help lines don't help. People will only go down that route when they have no money left. Then they can blame their situation on an addiction instead of just weak and stupid choices. If the person still has money left then the best option is to make them keep honest records. Sometimes when they see how much they are losing it might see the light.

don't waste your time. gambling addiction, like alcoholism, is a personality defect. no matter what you do, you can't force someone to accept the truth about themselves, only they an do that.
