I have been dating someone for the past 1 1/2 years and last month he lost his father. last week I was told that he wanted to end our relationship because he didn't know if he loved me like I deserved to be loved or if he loved me like a friend. He claims to have deep love for me and at times have thought I was his soul-mate. He also has claim that he is unhappy with life and doesn't know if I am the cause of it or if losing his father is what is causing his unhappiness. We haven't talked or seen each other in over 4 days. Can someone tell me please what the h**l is going on? Are we over or is he going to be coming back? Is this a test to see if he really does love me?

  1. He should vent out his feelings to someone! Whether it be you, or a psychiatrist.

  2. He probably does love you, but is going through a bit of depression at the moment.  My partner is going through major depression and goes through stages of pushing me away.  This is because he thinks I would be better off without him.

    Hang in there.

Maybe call him up and say "Hey, do you want to hang out?", suggest something fun like seeing a movie or going 10-pin bowling, keep it light, and keep the conversation light hearted too.  Don't demand answers.  He may just need a friend at the moment, and placing any more on him like "where do I stand with you?" when he's feeling a bit depressed might just make him feel a bit pressured and likely to push you away. If he feels like you can be there for him through the hard times, and can be a positive thing for him, he will probably come back.  Good luck! :)

  3. He sounds like he is confused and needs to sort out his feelings. The loss of his father is new and I would just let it go and give him some time for awhile and see if you should just move on.

  4. I'm not a guy but he's grieving and people deal with grief in various ways. I am sure if you give him some space he will respect you for that and things will be back on track soon. Step lightly :)
