I need ideas about painting my living room and kitchen, but there is a problem.

The wall that separates the two rooms does not go all the way to the ceiling. It only goes 3/4th of the way up. There is a beam that goes across the wall, which makes a place to put plants or decorative items across the top. The main problem is I think it will look funny if I try and paint two separate colors in each room.

  1. depends on the colours possibly, but really, if you think about it, if your lounge is green, and your hall pink, you see that through the door that goes from one to the other, it just is... so I wouldn't worry too much.

Love the 3/4 wall, I had one of those in a rental with a beam, it allowed me to hang a piece of glass on one wall (anchored from top of the 3/4 wall) and use it for a 'white' board, without damaging the walls

  2. You are not alone in  your dilemma, in fact it is quite a common question with today's open floor plans. I specialize in putting color in and about people's homes. Any time you have a change in plane (a wall that is either an outside or an inside corner) it is an opportunity to change color. Too many homeowners though, armed with their paint fan decks turn this into an opportunity to make what I call a "lollipop tree house" where every room is a different color just because they can! That's not a plan and one which will create discord. If you have a plan that makes sense, i.e. one that is based on sound principles of design and one which respects the inherent materials of the room along with its furnishings, you can very successfully change colors between those spaces. I'd have to know a bit more about your room though before making any suggestions.

  3. Yes, you can paint two separate colors. Provided that you will use the lighter ones to keep you in good mood.

When I attempted to live in a townhouse, one of my townhouse mate couples painted their room with lots of colors.  I warned them not to use dark colors for these gives negative effects.  But they did not listen to me.  So, there were times when I woke up hearing them quarrelling and making lots of noise.  In the end, I simply gave up my place and get another one.

So, kindly paint your living room with your favorite color on its lighter share to keep you always on the go and in good spirit. And speaking of good spirit, if you like I can do the feng shui for your entire house. Do not hesitate to get in touch.

Have a nice day and GOD BLESS!!!!!!
