I am an intermediate knitter....

Wanting to start a sweater to give my bf for his birthday in September. I dont have a lot of time to sit and knit, unfortunately, and I dont want to mess with a lot of cables, and intricate stitches, yet would like something that is trendy... does anyone have any ideas?

ALSO, what other unique things can I knit for him?

Would like to hear from you. If you knit for your guy, what did he like especially?

Thanks

  1. I was just at the Woolie Ewe this afternoon flipping through the most recent of the Stitch N ***** books, Son of Stitch N *****.  It had a lot of great new stuff.....but don't forget the Boyfriend Sweater Curse....if you want him to stick around maybe you should do some fingerless mits or something similar.......

  2. Those little beenie hats!  Those never go out of style andyou can knit them to match his favorite team/school colors.  My sister knits and crochets all of the time and I can neve rhave enough hats :-)  Good luck and aw how sweet of you!!

  3. a hat with his favorite sports team

a scarf with both of your initials

    gloves of his favorite color

anything that is personilized i know he'll love and espicially since you made it.

  4. pillows....ive started knitting pillows and they are turning out so awesome....just knitting and purling and they turn out like a basketweave design....plus they knit up really quick!

  5. Here is a free link with lots to choose from.

Here is a link to marymaxim catalogue store for you to browse. They have lots of patterns and sell in kit form if preferable.

  6. Never knit a gift for your boyfriend!!

It is the well known kiss of death of any relationship!

I don't know what the science is behind this, but apparently its true!

  7. Scarf and Hat set

Blanket or throw/wrap (for siting on the couch and watching TV or to take to a football game and keep warm this fall)

The blanket or throw can be done in blocks or strips...and then sew them together....to make it easier to handle

  8. An afghan... most of my gifts are afghans.  They are easily constructed one block at a time...not so much to carry around.  Once pieced together, they become a snuggly, comfort on those brisk mornings or late evenings.  I do not make many full size 'bed spread' types...just a standard sized throw to use to cover the legs and feet or around the shoulders, as desired.  Using his favorite sports team colors will also please him...or selecting colors to compliment his rooms at home...should also be appreciated.

My husband is particularly fond of a muffler (neck scarf) that his mother made for him...in high school colors, of course.

I crochet more than knit...it is easier for me to keep up with one 'tool'...at a time.

A knitted vest with cable stitching around the collar would be nice, too.  See the source below for some more ideas and patterns!

  9. Rule #1 on knitting for someone else: make sure it's something THEY want, not something you want.  I'm always tempted to knit things for my sister that I really want for myself, and then my mom talks me out of it.  You could even ask him what he'd like.  It will save you a lot of heartache.  It will ruin the surprise, kind of, but you can always work an element of surprise into the gift somehow (presentation, adding super-special details, etc.)

Rule #2: make it personal - something that is totally him.

Rule #3: make it simple and small.  It will still be special.  I knit my BF handwarmers/gauntlets to wear in his office in the winter.  He's a computer guy and his hands get cold, which makes typing difficult.  He totally loves them.

  10. How about gloves like these:

I've also seen a lot of patterns for ipod cozies, that might be cool.
