  1. I have learning disabilities too!

I'm doing well in life, I'm working at a day care center with the fours. For my activities I'm horseback riding twice a day, I color, draw, and paint. I love the computer plus going on the internet. I love watcing movies on DVD!

  2. What about painting? This would be beneficial as it would stimulate different areas of the brain?

Or horse riding, there are special riding schools which offer riding classes for those with learning disabilities.

Or learning to play an instrument?

  3. Social activities such as taking them to a cafe or pub for a meal, trips to a farm, zoo or other interesting places.

Outdoor Activities such as horticulture, gardening, growing things fromn seed, etc.

Exercise activities such as walking, swimming or cycling.

Encouraging expression through music, drama or art.

  4. if this is for an informal interview it needs to make a good impression. I would go for a musical activity as everyone enjoys music.  Have some instruments taking into consideration the disabilities of the students--easy grip or lap held etc. Have some music of different tempos and encourage them all to play along at first, then separate the sounds ie drums, maracas and get each section or person to play on their own.

  5. are you interviewing the adults with LD for employability workshops or are you going for an interview to work with adults with LD?

  6. There many degrees of learning disabilities. Activities many vary due to the capability of those in question. The activities should be safe, but not boring. They should be challenging, but attainable.

Always encourage and use positive reinforcement.

  7. Art and music are probably the most rewarding for your clients. Maybe cooking depending on there disabilities.

Gardening if physically fit. Hope that helps.

  8. take them to the pub to play pool (my local is full of awld)

  9. Any activities will depend on individual assessment.

Each person should have short..medium..long term goals associated with their particular needs. This should be assessed by the individual, parent, carer, etc

You go for the most achievable first to encourage progress.

There are many assessment formats available but do not forget that it is the individuals interests and skill level that will decide your choice.

It is useful to remember that an activity which allows transferable skills to be incorporated into their daily lives will be valuable in supporting other life enhancing opportunities.

  10. Depending on their level of disability of course:

basic sorting clearly named letters into clearly named envelopes and putting them in (clearly labelled!) pigeon holes is a task which is productive and useful.

Ditto filing things in alphabetical order such as index cards in box.

If less able, recreational rather than work - any creative art work; printing, chalk on black paper, cutting and sticking to make a collage.

Jigsaw puzzles - not to complex but age-appropriate to retain some dignity.

Threading beads to make jewellery - bracelets and necklaces.

Hope this helps a bit - good luck with the interview.

  11. It does depend on degree of disabilty of the adults but golden rule is to remember it has to be achievable for them to be able to do with confidence and to the best of their ability.

No good doing something they cant do or understand as that will leave not only them but also you frustrated and down.

If you are being interviewed on what you would do that point above is always a good opener because you have to get to know people first and how can you do something with someone when you do not know them or their abilites?

To break the ice with a chat is good idea like favourite television programme or music so that they can talk about themselves and you can get to know about them first.

Activities you may be able to do:

music, art and crafts, cooking + iced buiscuits is quick simple acheivable and all you need is a packet of plain buscuits, some iceing sugar, food colour to change the colour of ice and water. Mix the sugar with drop of water and colour and mix then put on buscuit for added fun sprinkle hundreds of thousands or sweets to make faces (easy and achievable), playing bingo will depend on their abilities. A lot may like a beauty session like nails done if female that is I always found that went down a storm and a good boost to their confidence.

Just remember the golden rule make it easy achievable for them even able bodied people will get upset if they cant do something that they are asked to do.
