  1. He can help out at your local animal shelter.

  2. Nursing home to read or play cards with the seniors or at your local library reading to young kids.  Maybe helping at an animal shelter.  Arrange a park clean up which could get other kids involved as well.

Perhaps you can use what he already has an interest in and find something that is related to it.

  3. He could be a candy striper at a local hospital -- traditionally a girl's job, but nowadays boys do it too. Most hospitals allow kids to do this starting at age 13.

  4. If there are any Heritage sites near you - like old homes that are now Museums etc. they will usually give the kids credit for volunteering to do garden work.  Things like cutting grass or planting flowers.  If there is a Garden Club in your area give them a call, because they usually  have requests from places looking for volunteers.  Also, (not sure where you live) the high schools around here will give credit for helping Senior Citizens with yard work, shopping or cleaning whatever as long as the student has it OK'd by a teacher or guidance counselor.

  5. Usually, whomever gave him those hours of community service, would have given him a list of places to choose from. If this is in an official capacity, there would be some direction as to where he can go. Can you give more detail as to why he needs to do the hours within the school year?

  6. There are many ways that he could help the eldery and the blind. The blind center in your area could use him to donate several hours per week reading for the blind. Also, he could visit and read for the elderly in a nursing home. He could also volunteer and help out in Animal Rescue or in being a temporary owner in Foster Pet Care! Some pets need a good foster home till they can be permanently adopted. He could volunteer hours helping to read to those with severe MS. Contact all Disabled Communities to see if volunteer helpers are needed. Bye!!!

  7. Many schools except  work for an elderly person or disabled.  They just sign off the paper like a non-profit.  If you know one among your friends or in the neighborhood, he can clean windows, take out trash, clean up the yard, make some food for them, read a book or magazine to them, etc...

Also, some places allow him to volunteer at a younger age if the parents accompany him.  Call animal shelters, park clean-ups, retirement facilities, and check out volunteer clubs like Rotary club.  Sometimes they have fundraisers where your son could help them with an event.  Check out www.craigslist.org in your area (volunteer section under community) and if you have www.onebrick.org in your area.  If he's ambitious, he can put together a fundraiser for a local organization (put on a talent show, sell door to door, raise money doing chores for family and friends).  Good Luck
