  1. For the behavior chart I have saw this working in lots of nurseries.

You need a sunshine, a rainbow and a grumpy cloud.

Take a photo of each child and at the start of the day place everyone on the sunshine (involve the children)

If they forget to use their walking feet, listening ears etc even after 2 warnings ask the child 2 place their picture on the rainbow (make sure the child is given their warnings and don't place them straight onto the rainbow)

Use the grumpy cloud for those little ones who have been biting, kicking etc

Remember to explain why they are going on the rainbow or cloud and make sure at the end of the day everyone is back on the sunshine as little things like being left on a grumpy cloud could cause a preschooler a sleepless night.

Oh, try sparkle box for some fun printables for around your sink area.

  2. My preschool they have shells and pretty stones glued (with intensive strong glue) around all the notice boards. It looks beautiful and people always comment on them. Around the sink area how about a photo story showing children in your class rolling up their sleaves, turning taps on, putting on soap etc so they can follow the routine and it is also children they know in the pictures so it is more personal. Hang objects from the ceiling - a plastic apple with the letter A dangling off it, a ball with the letter B off it etc so it makes for more visual depth to the room. Use masking tape on the floor to make a shape or a letter or something anything the children love it!! - last week I 'drew' the numbers 1 2 3 on the floor in masking tape and 'drew' borders around the numbers so they were each in their own square on the floor. The children thought it was great. I used it for games at mat time and the children created their own games with it. You could 'draw' or 'write' anything on the floor it is very creative and looks interesting and unexpected.

For a behaviour chart how about each child has a jar on a shelf and the when they are being rewarded they get to put a marble in their jar and then when they get a certain amount of marbles they get a sticker or a prize.

  3. One year for my behavior chart I did gumball machines.  I made a large poster-each student had a gumball machine cut out with 3 plastic circles velcroed on.  If they kept all the "gumballs" in for the day, they received a sticker at the end of the day.  If they misbehaved and took one out, they did not receive a sticker.  If they continued to misbehave and took out another gumball, they received a time out.  If the third gumball had to be taken out, I either had the principal talk with them, or I called home right then.
