  1. The bank can not help you, they can not produce statement nor are they legally required to do so your time frame is well past statue.

There are some questions or items that should have been provided.  Was it your account, joint, single or other.

Was the account closed by you, or just lost.

Have you moved since you opened the account

If you think there was money in the account and it was escheted to your state of domicile at the time you had the bank account, then contact the state to see if your name is on the list.  You can contact your state on line, their website would provide you direction to escheted accounts or unclaimed property.  Follow the direction on the site

Going to a lawyer or a politican is an absolute waste of time and possibly money.

  2. If your bank does not have it, the money went to the state under escheat laws.  The way to get your money is to contact the state's unclaimed property office.  First look for the money under your name.  I attach a link to many states, hopefully your state is included.

  3. 15 years is a long time, But there may be some help. Call or write a letter to your local assemblyman and ask if the state that you live in has a office that handles lost or unclaimed property. Be sure that you are specific about your claim to that account.

Generally after 7 years properties, even bank accounts, go dormant and are put under the control of the state.
